Product is Changing
Founded by JJ Rorie, an esteemed product management expert and Associate Professor of the Practice at Johns Hopkins University, Shyft PM was created to bridge critical gaps in the product management talent ecosystem.
With over 15 years of leadership experience in product management across corporate environments and academia, JJ has seen firsthand the challenges organizations face in finding, developing, and retaining top product talent.
Let's shyft our approach to product talent

The School of Experience
Ninety-five percent of current product managers started their career in another role. Historically, that's just how it worked. We started our careers in engineering or marketing or some other role and then, at some point, found our way to product. Many of us didn't even know product management was a career option until several years into our careers!
Even if not an intentional career path, these other roles provided important context and experience that helped once we became product managers. What we lacked in pure product management training, we made up for in the school of experience. Now, however, it's time to hone our true product skills through appropriate and intentional learning programs.
I Wish I Had a Product Management Class in University!
Today, product management is a high-visible, attractive field, especially to early-career professionals. Many universities across the world teach product management classes and have student-led clubs dedicated to learning product management. Many of us wish we had this at the beginning of our careers!
This new talent pool is eager and ready to make an impact from the very beginning of their careers. They bring a foundational understanding of the product craft that most of us did not have as we began our product career. However, they lack the corporate maturity and domain context that comes from other roles. They are ready but will need support.
Shyft PM Was Born To Bridge the Gaps
Shyft PM was born from this dual perspective - a unique lens that blends the changing landscape of product management with the growing pool of new talent ready to make an impact.
All of our offerings - our unique Shyfternships, managed APM Programs, applied learning programs through the Academy, and tailored Advisory services, are meant to help product teams navigate these shyfting times.
